Collection: // LEV BOURLIOT //

Painter, photographer, and filmmaker, Mexican-born Texan artist LEV has traveled the alternative scenes of Houston and Dallas before arriving in Paris in 2019.
Born in the South East Houston neighborhood, which has some of the highest rates of poverty and gun violence in Texas, LEV began directing as a teenager. At 17, he won a Texas Emmy Award for Best Live Action Director.

After studying film, he embarked on a project to report on JM Rizzi, an artist who became famous in the 90s in New York for his graffiti, before migrating in the 2000s to the fine art sector.

For 1 year, LEV filmed JM Rizzi in Dallas. It was a decisive year for LEV, which allowed him to learn a great deal from JM RIZZI and to develop his own plastic practice.
In parallel to his artistic work, LEV scoured the alternative nights and became a regular of the big disused hangars of the South West where he organized events halfway between the artistic gathering and the rave.

In 2019, while he finishes his report on JM Rizzi, he suffers a burglary. All of his work material, his films and his backups are stolen.
Following this painful episode, he decides to leave everything to settle in Paris.

After his move, he finds the underground universe and becomes an actor of the alternative nights of the capital. This path leads him to Carbone 17, a squat occupied since 2017 by the eponymous artist collective. He installs his workshop there. Then in a few months, he impulses several projects: creation of a photo studio, a sewing workshop and a residency program for international artists.

Always influenced by his mentors, LEV gives transmission a central place in his projects. He strives to help other artists benefit from the opportunities that have carried him, and to make his residency at Carbone 17 a collective platform for growth.

His many projects do not overshadow his primary love for cinema. He considers every encounter, every event in his life as raw material for a film in preparation, which tells the story of the underground scene from one side of the Atlantic to the other.
